The association between witches and brooms goes back to ancient times, when pagans had rituals to ensure healthy crops. During these ceremonies the participants would mount pitchforks, poles, and broom; and rode them like horses into the fields, leaping high into the air and dancing. The moon represents intuition, magic and mystery. She waxes and wanes from maiden to mother to crone, being reborn again as the maiden symbolizing the endless circle of life.
